Another take on Assignment 3. I used potato prints to create the leaf shapes. LOVING the Pikaland online art course!
Here are a few takes on Assignment 3. The final one is the little boy, bringing something colourful home from the park (probably for his sister).
Behold! Assignment two of the aforementioned art course. I’m having lots of fun. This one required us to make one artwork, three ways. Got me out of my comfort zone that’s for sure.
I’ve just started a new course—a six week bootcamp for illustration. This is the outcome of the first assignment (recognise this from my weekend at Caloundra?). I spent a lot of time trying out different things: gouache, charcoal, pencil etc. And I completely forgot to use my imagination… But I post it anyway. It’s a good lesson to remind everyone to just do whatever it is that you’re good at and love. MUCH better than trying to follow the crowd and be something you’re not. *Cue Mariah Carey music*
P.S. Check out Pikaland. A super duper site for people who love pretty.
I think this is the best part of Zoë’s Handwritten Notes. A response from one of my favourite artists, Sam Creyton. Check out some of her recent work here.
We spent a weekend at Caloundra recently and saw this amazing furry green moss on the rocks at Happy Valley. It felt warm and alive underfoot! Kind of like a wet dog (minus the smell). Which is good if you like dogs. I wish I was a better photographer because these don’t even come close to conveying the feeling of amazement at seeing such an unusual landscape.
Another handwritten note to a very dear friend. I made it by sewing some Marimekko fabric to two postcard pieces of 300gsm paper. The torn bits of paper surrounding it are the remnants of my first attempt! I thought I’d hand it all over to illustrate my creative process! I have recently been interviewed by Paper Runway magazine about this project… I’m anxiously awaiting the latest issue to see if it made the cut!
I’ve been drawing. This is one in a series of drawings which I’ve done for a social worker who is helping teens open up about their emotions. Tough crowd. I’d love to think, though, that I have the ability to do something useful, rather than just create guff that gets chucked in the bin moments after it was looked at for one third of a second!
